Yes, it is important because that programmer is not genuine DIY product but a pirate copy. So if you have a problem the seller should help you. DIY Electronics help their customers by email and also through this forum, which they pay for and operate. DIY did not sell this product and therefore make no profit from it. Is it fair that they should provide help and support?

I suggest you ask the seller to help with your problem. They sold it so they should provide technical support.

At time that I bought it, I don't have any idea about your company. But people that bought this product from officials dealers,  have a same problem and I think that it be a great succes to help them, to use more that COM9 ports.
In reality I understand your sentiments. Is not my fault that I bought not from official dealers. I give you a same recomandation that help your product to be a more good, if you want, you can use it if not it is your choice.
thanks for understanding.

I am annoyed by your comments. What you are saying is that because genuine customers would have the same problem then I should help you, which would help them as well.

What I am saying is that I am paid by DIY to help THEIR customers, not people who buy pirate copies of their products and then come to this forum looking for help.

It is not my fault either if you bought from pirate dealers. I accept your word that you did it without knowing but that changes nothing.

Having said all that, the solution is quite simple. You can change the allocated port number in Windows. After connecting go to Windows 'Device Manager', 'Ports (COM & LPT)', then right click on USB serial port for the programmer and select 'Properties'. Click on 'Port Settings', 'Advanced' and you should be able to change the COM port number to one that the software can use.

One small problem we are fixing now is the transistors blowing particularly if ICSP wires are shortcircuited. In Kit 149we are now using 3xBC327-40 instead of the BC558, and the SOT23 MMBT2907A transistor for the other kits.

work arround windows7 64bit (deleting all hidden, unused virtual Driver) then your virtual com ports decrease and you can use a com port number < 10)

1) In the Windows 7 start menu

right click computer and select properties,

in the "System" window that opens in the upper left pane

select Advanced System Settings.

2) In the system properties window that opens under the advanced tab

select the Environment Variables button,

in the Environment Variables window

select new,

then in the New User Variable window

type "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" (without the quotes)

and give it a value of " 1 "

then click ok to add the entry, then ok again to finish.

3) Again in the Windows start menu right click computer and select manage,

in the window that opens in the left pane select Device Manager,

at the top click view and select Show Hidden Devices.
